What to do if Stanley’s responses feel...off
Last updated: January 28, 2026
If Stanley’s responses don’t quite feel right, that doesn’t mean you’re using him incorrectly — it usually just means he needs more direction!
Stanley works best as a collaborator, and a small adjustment can make a big difference.
Step 1: Pause and notice what feels off 🤔
Before starting over, try to name what isn’t landing.
Ask yourself:
Is the tone off?
Does it feel too generic or polished?
Is it missing your perspective or opinion?
Did Stanley make an assumption that isn’t accurate?
Your reaction is helpful information!
Step 2: Give direct feedback 🗣
Stanley improves when you tell him how to adjust.
You can say things like:
“This doesn’t sound like me — can you make it more conversational?”
“This feels generic. Can we make it more specific to my experience?”
“I want this to be bolder and more opinionated.”
“That’s not quite true — here’s what I actually mean…”
Specific feedback helps Stanley recalibrate quickly!
Step 3: Add more context 🧠
If a response feels off, it’s often because Stanley doesn’t have enough background.
You can share:
What you’re thinking about lately
Who you’re writing for
What outcome you want from the post
Examples of past posts you liked
Even messy or half-formed thoughts are useful!
Step 4: Ask for critique, not just a rewrite ✍🏼
Instead of asking for another version, try asking Stanley to analyze the draft.
For example:
“What’s weak about this post?”
“Where might readers drop off?”
“What could make this more engaging?”
Stanley is designed to offer honest, constructive feedback — not just agree with you!
Pro tip: Feeling “off” is part of the process 💡
Every time you redirect, refine, or push back, Stanley learns your voice better. Over time, drafts will feel more aligned and require less editing.
